ComeinSicily · Corte dei Limoni
A few steps from Acireale's Cathedral, Via Monsignor Genuardi 32 opens onto a courtyard guests call «a little oasis of peace». Elena and Giuseppe have cared for it since 2010, together with the palazzo's six rooms.
The 19th-century courtyard is the heart of the house: stone floors, lime-washed walls and trees heavy with fruit. Breakfast happens here in the morning, books are read here in the afternoon, and everyone gathers for a glass of wine in the evening.
Lava-stone vaults, wooden beams, lime-white and leaf-green walls. The palazzo's six rooms are bookable today in four types — these, with their official names.
Door I
The essential room of the house: a large double bed, private bathroom, air conditioning and the courtyard beneath your window.
Door II
Exposed stone arches and more space to breathe: one large double bed or two singles, always with a garden view.
Door III
For three guests without giving up comfort: a large double bed and a sofa bed, in a space that feels like home.
Door IV
The right space for families: a large double bed, a sofa bed and the courtyard's silence as a lullaby.
Freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade cakes and jams, cold cuts, cheeses and seasonal fruit. When the weather allows — and in Acireale it often does — you eat beneath the trees.
Tea and herbal infusions served in the garden, as the light grows long on the stone. The slow hour of the day, between a walk to the Cathedral and a swim below the Chiazzette.
A glass of Sicilian wine to close the day: the evening tasting, beneath the palazzo's vaults or under the jasmine, trading stories of Etna seen from afar.
The town's baroque drawing room: the Cathedral, the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, granite underfoot.
The most celebrated façade of Acireale's baroque, UNESCO heritage within the Val di Noto.
The historic promenade down to the Timpa coast: the sea can be reached on foot.
The green cliff above the sea, with trails and views over the Cyclops coast.
Verga's sea stacks and fishing villages, for a swim or a granita at sunset.
The volcano is visible from town; excursions leave every day.
Halfway between the two: the location guests reward with a 9.7 out of 10.
One of Sicily's finest carnivals, with allegorical floats parading right around here.

Water harvesting, solar thermal panels, natural detergents and recycling: beauty is cared for this way too.
